EXCERPTS FROM REV. SLOGGETT'S LEAST, LAST, LOST MESSAGE

LOVING THE LEAST, THE LAST, AND THE LOST

James 1:22-27
But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. [23] For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass: [24] For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was. [25] But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed. [26] If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man's religion is vain. [27] Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.

YOU CAN PRESERVE THE WORD, HEAR THE WORD, MEMORIZE THE WORD, REPEAT THE WORD, COMMEND THE WORD, BUT IF YOU REFUSE TO DO THE WORD, THEN YOU ARE A SELF DECEIVER.

TO HAVE TRUTH, AND KNOW TRUTH, BUT DO NO MORE THAN SIT AROUND AND DISCUSS YOUR TRUTH, PHILOSOPHIZE ABOUT TRUTH, ARGUE SOPHISTICATEDLY ABOUT THE TRUTH, AND REMIND YOURSELF THAT YOU POSSES THE TRUTH, IS THE GREATEST LIE ONE HAS EVER TOLD ONESELF.

FAITH WITHOUT WORKS IS DEAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

PREACHING IS IMPORTANT, DRESS CODE IS NEEDFUL, TEACHING IS NECESSARY, STRUCTURE IS WONDERFUL, BUT THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN IS FOUNDED ON LOVE, FAITH, MERCY, AND GRACE AND THE CHURCH THAT WILL GROW AND STAND THE TEST OF THE AGES WILL BE CENTERED AND FOCUSED ON HELPING THE LEAST, THE LAST, AND THE LOST!

IT WORKS ON A PERSONAL TO A NATIONAL SCALE AND SOMEWHERE IN THE MIDDLE OF THAT SCALE IS THE LEVEL CALLED “THE CHURCH”

Proverbs 29:18
Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.

WHAT WOULD YOU SAY CONSTITUTES A VISION IN THIS VERSE…
DRESS CODE
SUNDAY SCHOOL LESSONS
LOUDEST PREACHING
MOST WORDS THAT RHYME IN A SERMON
CLEAN CHURCH
NICE SIGNAGE
OR…

OUTREACH, FELLOWSHIP, HELPING HANDS, VISITING, REACHING, CARING, TRYING, BEGGING, COMPELLING, LOVING…THE LEAST, THE LAST, AND THE LOST.

CONVICTION, EMOTION, TEACHING, DINNERS, ETC. MIGHT DRAW PEOPLE, BUT TO KEEP THEM WE NEED THE VISION OF GOD REACHING INTO THE NEIGHBORHOODS, THE TRAILER PARKS, THE SCHOOL SYSTEMS, THE WORKPLACES, THE GOVERNMENT BUILDINGS, THE GROCERY STORES, THE BANKS, THE RESTAURANTS, ON A DAILY BASIS. WITH AS MANY PEOPLE AS GO TO THE AVERAGE BIBLE BELIEVING CHURCH IN AMERICA, THERE IS NO REASON WHY WE SHOULDN’T IMPRESS AT LEAST ONE PERSON A DAY TO THINK ABOUT COMING TO OUR CHURCH.

EVERY CHANCE WE GET TO BE HELPFUL, TO BE NICE, BE RESPECTFUL, SHOW CARE AND CONCERN AND BY FAITH IN JESUS CHRIST BELIEVING THAT GOD WILL BLESS OUR EFFORTS TO GROW HIS KINGDOM FOR HIS GLORY.

A CULT WILL GROW INTO THE FAMILY, BUT A CHURCH WILL GROW INTO THE COMMUNITY.

A PERFECT CHURCH IS A CHURCH THAT HAS A LOST PERSON IN EVERY SERVICE.

"Important blog about the ACLU" the audio version (Audio)

(Click on link above to Listen)

*IMORTANT BLOG ABOUT THE ACLU*

Dear friends,
One of the most important issues of our time is coming to a head.  Is the ACLU relevant?  I am not an idialog, a political hack nor am I a blind follower of some random cultic thought.  I will be the first to admit that the ACLU has done many good things in past history and even a few decent things in recent history.  If you can't admit that, then you probably are an idialog.  But the basic arguements that they have today make little sense, if any, unless they have a hidden agenda and only tell certain things to the public that they believe that the "ignorant public" will accept.
There is a current battle going on in the Bay Minette, AL area that the ACLU is hot and heavy on, but they and thier side are absolutely distorting all facts about the case.  I work very closely with one of the churches involved and the press that this thing is recieving is abolutely absurd.  The oppostion (ACLU) to a particular act in that town is claiming that people are being forced or coaxed to go to church.  Point #1 it's not just "poeple", as if it is some random folks from off the street.  It is criminals.  People that broke laws.  Now I know, criminals are people too.  But the two don't always equate so you cannot throw out the term criminals.  For example, people aren't always criminals.  Point #2 is that they are saying that the "criminals" are being forced or coaxed when actually they are given multiple choices.  They can go to jail, they can do community service or they can go to church.  I think I remember the last several times that I heard an athiest ACLU attorney try to express his reasons for why they are so adimately fighting the church all around the country is because they believe so strongly in choice and freedoms and tolerance.  Really?!  This act in Bay Minette seems to do all of those things.  It gives choices and tolerance and even awards certain freedoms.  If you believe that some religious activity could help you then you are allowed to choose that course.  If you believe that hard work and community involvement is better for your psyche than attending some church service then you are allowed to choose that course.  If you are a lazy, mean spirited person that just wants to sit around on the communities tax dime, you can even choose that course.  What more does the ACLU want???  If they believe so strongly that they are right, why don't they let people have a choice and then we will see what works best and what people choose.  Unless the common people are just to stupid to know what is good for them.
So in all reality this case is finally showing the true colors of this radical groug that has hijacked what once was an organization of the common man.  This case shows that they do not want the things that they have been telling us that they want.  choices, freedoms and tollerance.  Either they have been lying to us, or they are hypocrites.
The cool-aid drinking ilk that carry water for these people don't make any more sense either.  On a regional radio talk show this morning in Florida one of my affiliate preachers heard them discussing this case.  Our preacher sent them a facebook link about how one of my organizations have been doing similar to the Bay Minette action in a certain city here in America.  The radio person then went on some web sites and got back on the air and said that it wasn't working in that city because the crime rate was up in that city since we started there three years ago.  That is a shallow, ridiculous, uneducated argument.  That is like me taking a grey steering wheel and a grey stick shift knob off of a car and saying that it is a grey car.  Knowing all along that the car in mostly red, with chrome on parts and black interior with grey accents. There are lots of components that make up reasons for crime rate in any particular place.  Almost every city in America today has a higher crime rate than two or three years ago.  So does that mean that if they are doing non-religious things in some other city, now we have to say that isn't working either.  The reason that crime is up is because #1 the government has been forced to cut funding to our policing agencies and #2 because we are in a recession and more people are out of work and feel forced to commit crimes.  Guess where I got those statistcs ACLU?  Uh uh uh, let's not be hypocritical again.
The ACLU makes me feel more like Jesus all the time, because the better part of his minsitry was spent fighting against hypocrites too.  They were religious hypocrites that took the old law of God and twisted it around and tried to force thier opinions on the masses.  The ACLU is in turn taking the founding documents of this great country and twisting them around and trying to force thier opinions on the masses.  After all the seperation of church and state is merely found not in official law documents but rather in personal writting between founding fathers.  So does that mean if we find some personal writtings between founding fathers where they request prayer one for the other that now the ACLU has to go around forcing our leaders to pray for each other?  Does that mean that if we find documentation of founding fathers writting personal letters to each other where one argues for slavery, then now the ACLU has to run around and force us to have slaves?  The arguments that they make do not make any sense!!!
Christians, civil, law abiding citizens and people with heart and thought should all come together on this issue and support the people of the greater Bay Minette area and force the ACLU to either come up with a real reason why this act should not continue or shut up and go home and leave normal America alone.  Just because you have the bully pulpit sometimes, doesn't mean that all of us "ignorant, regular people" out here believe your ridiculous, pretend agenda.
Now one of the ACLU's greatest arguments is that there are crazy, right wing, radical, religious freaks out there that are doing damage to our country.  Guess what?  I AGREE!  If any of you were to follow my minsitry for the shortest amount of time you would know that I spend a lot of time hammering those people too, but because one idiot acts dangerous, doesn't give the next person the right to act just as dangerous in a different direction.  People want sanity, freedom, help for the hurting, a chance to show what they can do.
The ACLU has a lot of top dogs and people pushing them, these days, that are athiests.  This is what is driving a lot of thier agenda.  But once again, let us look at the hypocrisy of it all.  they claim to want to help people and break peoples bondage to religion and give them the freedom to choose.  After all the ACLU is about compassion and courtesy, right?  Right?  Well, why don't we do a little excersise.  Sit down with two blank sheets of paper.  At the top of one write "religious".  At the top of the other write "athiest".  Now list for me if you will all of the religious charities that you know of.  Now, list for me if you will all of the atheist charities that you know of.  Do you need some extra time on that one.  Now write down the names of all the people in your community that you know that was given food when they were hungry, clothes when they didn't have any, from religous groups.  Now do the same for the athiests.  Now list the christian hospitals in your area.  Now the atheist ones.  Now list the christian based drug rehabs in your area, now the athiest ones.  The christian youth camps.  The athiest ones.  Is any one seeing a pattern here?  Go downtown to the largest community near you and ask a street walker who they call when they need help, ask a homeless person where they go when they have a desperate need, ask a poor person who was the last entitiy to help them pay their electric bill...I'm sure they will say it was the local athiests!!!  NOT.  No, because the athiests have put all of thier eggs into two baskets.  Schools and governments.  They want to control the next generation.  See how far you have to go back until the majority of all of the cases that the ACLU took up were NOT about schools or governments.  Now I ask you, how many of you are happy today with your schools and your governments?  These are the two areas that the American public is more disgusted wtih than any others and these are the two areas where we continually let the ACLU have thier way.  WAKE UP PEOPLE!  RISE UP!  Think and act on things that matter.  You can start by spreading this blog to everyone you can get it to.  E-mail, copy and paste, re-blog, facebook, like, link, comment, tweet, print flyers and pass it around.  Read it in your churches on Sunday morning!!!  This is not a political statement and it's really not even much of a religious statement.  It's a LOGICAL statement.  We need less strategizing and more common sense.
your humble servant,
Rev. D. Todd Sloggett

Quotes used in "The spirit of depression" sermon

The best way out is always through....

You cannot plough a field by turning it over in your mind...

Glory is not never falling, but glory is rising every time you fall...

Knowing is not enough, we must apply, and willing is not enough, we must do...

Nothing great is ever achieved without enthusiasm...

If you would create something you must first be something...

Every artist was first an amateur...

Men do less than they ought, unless they do all they can...

The difference between a successful person and a failure is not a lack of strength, not a lack of knowledge, but rather a lack of will power...

For all who have been inquiring...I will be at Tatum Holiness church in Tatum, TX during thier campmeeting (preaching the morning of Sept 30th), then i will spend the rest of the weekind at my home fellowship meeting (Bethany Holiness Church in Sand Springs, OK) where I will get the tremendous treat of seeing two of my board members preach a meeting for another one of my board members, (: how cool is that?

Then I will be at a dinner and fundraiser for RESKU International (one of HMA's sponsors) on the night of Oct 7th in Sapulpa, OK, then I and some of my staff members will be at Revival Tabernacle in Richmond, KY with Brother David Lamb from Oct 9th-11th.

That will be Sunday Oct 23rd, then I believe Ozark Bible Institute is bringing a group to do ministry with HMA on thursday night the 27th of Oct.

(Free Gospel Bible Institute is also supposed to come work with us some time this winter) and if the ACLU doesn't back down in Bayminette, AL, I may be going back down there around the 30th of Oct. That's all I know at this point.

SHUT UP AND WALK!

It's an old indian tale where the mother bear had three little bear cubs that were new born.  Two of the cubs learned fairly quickly to bounce and scammper around.  The last little cub was watching the other two and it's mother and finally asked it's mother,

"mamma, when i start to walk, should I put my left front foot out first, or should I put my right front foot out first, or should I put both front feet out first, or when I do start to walk should I put my right hind leg up first, or should I put my left hind leg up first, or should I put both my hind legs up, or when i do start to walk, should I try to start with both my left legs at the same time, or should I try with both my right legs at the same time, or......"

This is when mamma bear interjected, "SHUT UP AND WALK!"

JAMES 2:17 Says "Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone."

The church has almost so restricted and confined itself (and canibalized itself) that if you don't have everything studied out, figured out and pretty much gauranteed to succeed...you better not even try.  Why not?  Because if you mess up, there are vultures waiting to attack.  No, they have never done any better.  No, they haven't figured out a way to do it either.  But being as though they haven't accomplished much either, the only way that they can get any higher is to step on someone else.  So they wait for someone to stumble and fall.  Because a person down is easier to get up on.

Friend, don't fall for these fear tactics.  Pray through, get a burden and a vision.  Talk to men and women with wisdom.  Then get out there and try your best for God.  What if you fail? Then do the thing that the vultures can't stand.  Get up.  Admit your faults.  Apologize and repent for them.  Then learn from your mistakes and try again.  You will end up far more successful than those who do not.  I do not consider myself an expert at much of anything except failure, but a brother asked me here while back, "Why does so and so call you our expert on outreach?"  I said, "because I have made more mistakes at it than anyone else."  I's the truth.  I know more about certain things because I have learned more about what not to do, thus narrowing down what to do.

I'm all for education and planning as long as it is educating you to eventually DO something and it is planning on actually DOING SOMETHING.  I have helped over a dozen churches start some very large outreaches. Often times the biggest job that I have when I get there is to convince them to start.   It happended at Bethany Holiness in Sand Spngs, OK, in Jersey, GA, in Toledo, OH, (re-start), in Perryton, TX, and on and on...Sometimes all that education and planning really does is give you the courage to believe that you now can try.  But you can try either way.

Some of HMA's biggest failures were more successful than many ministries' successes.  Listen, we have reached drug addicts and drug dealers and not been able to keep them in church, and they walk away from God and years later we find out that they never did or sold drugs again because of things they learned at church.  That was the success of our failure.  A ministry that won't even get out there and try to reach them but thinks that their greaterst success is preaching a Sunday morning sermon extravaganza against drugs, feels successful if the sermon goes over with the people, but it didn't do anything at all to clean up the drugs from our streets.  I say again, some of our failures have been more successful than some other minstires' successes.

These types of practice on the congregation ministries remind me of a man that was once referred to as the greatest surgeon of all.  In his day he was often reffered to as that.  He performed thousands of surgeries that had never been performed before.  He was greatly successful in areas of  human operation that the best of the best before him had little success at.  One problem.  He never performed a surgery on a LIVING person.  He insisted on only performing surgery on corpses.  When asked why one day toward the end of his career, he replied "I was so afraid of losing a patient, I just couldn't bring myself to operate on a living body.  This way I can now say that I have never lost a patient."  To which the man replied, "I can now also say, that you never saved one either."  OUCH!
But true.  Many of our greatest ministers continually perform surgery on the same old dead corpses.  And it may be true that they have never lost one, but could it be said, they have never saved one either?  OH help us dear Jesus, to step out in faith.  Not faith in us and our abilities, but rather faith in your desire to save others, that you will make a way to use us and bless our feeble efforts.  Friend don't be affraid to fail.  Regardless what you have been taught.  Failure is one of the greatest tools of ministry.

You don't understand brother Todd...I'm so weak against the big evil influences of the world!  Listen to me:

SNOW FLAKES ARE VERY VERY FRAIL, BUT IF ENOUGH OF THEM STICK TOGETHER, THEY CAN STOP TRAFFIC!!!  What does that say about you and I?

So...from the bottom of my heart.  If you know something that can be done to the benefit of the kingdom of heaven and you have looked at it 37 ways to Sunday.  You talked about it, told some about it, asked others about it and talked about it some more...SHUT UP AND WALK!!!

About latest messsages:

"There is no magic wand..."  is an old archive message from the very beggining days of HMA.  I sure had a lot to learn.  I'm sure I still do.  That message was pretty raw and rough and I hesitated even putting it on here but it was a speacial request, so I did.  The "...one you love won't treat you right" message was an incredible incident.  I felt all day yesterday that I needed to preach that message.  The feeling wouldn't leave me.  I tried to hurry up and get to where I could broadcast and preach the message but things just stayed hectic until very late.  Finally about 9pm-ish I decided to just go home and try again tomorrow.  But I just couldn't leave.  I went back in and started the broadcast.  Almost immediately a special friend of mine logged on to the broadcast and began to listen.  He is in the military ans stationed in Korea right now.  He was posting on my page as I was preaching and I could see it.  It would be the equivalent of yelling out "come on preach" in the middle of your pastor's sermon on Sunday morning.  The Lord was really helping me.  By the time the message was over there were several people logged on and listening around the world.  Little did I know that my buddy was really going through a battle at that exact moment and God was comforting him and giving him answers right then, live through the broadcast, half way around the world.  My buddy was facebooking some mutual church friends of ours while I was driving home after the broadcast.  They got me on the phone and they were telling me what he was saying and I began to weep.  God is sooooo wonderful.  He cares sooooo much.  Praise be to his Holy Name.  Hold on brother in Korea, i'll preach every chance I get and give it all I got.  The Lord God almighty is on OUR side!!!

It humbles me to realize what these messages are doing.  My first message on flipzu.com is #1 is listens in english and #11 in listens world wide in all languages.  This means that more people are hearing the gospel truth than ever before.  Praise God!  If you want to help, please pray for us, or donate right here on the donate button, or spread the blog link, the flipzu link, and the facebook link so that we can find new and more powerful ways to promote outreach, our missions and Christ in general.  Thank you and God bless.

About audio messages

Concerning these first three audio messages.  "Drug pushers at the cross" was broadcast live last Sunday night at a church service.  "The damage of the devil called the drink" was a message preached a few years ago at HMA in Tulsa during a homeless mission service.  I pulled it up out of the HMA archives.  "Our duties toward our equals" was a lesson I taugth during a chapel service today at Bethany Christain Acadamy in Sand Springs, OK.  I realize many of you are asking for these messages and I will get to them as much as I can.  I will be trying to broadcast all the new sermons that I preach from now on and I will try to get some more HMA archive messages out there as well.  We are undertaking a lot right now but God is blessing our efforts.  The new website "holinessmissionstoamerica.org is almost completed and even when it is up, will still be a work in progress.  We will have more pics, audio and eventually video, of our works and services as we can put them together, but first and foremost is the work of reaching the least, the last and the lost!  HMA and all of our affiliates are currently running several homeless, drug, children and other outreaches, including two complete functioning churches and a non-profit furniture store where several new convert work.  We have put a new pay pal button here on the blog and you can give securely with a credit card or pay pal account directly to Holiness Missions to America.  Please pray for us.

ABOUT "DRUG PUSHERS" SERVICE

The last post of "Drug Pushers at the Cross" audio, was a church service that I preached at a church that we are affiliated with.  There was a local drug rehab center that had brought all of their clients to be in service with us.  At the end of the service, at least 6 of them were in the altar praying.  Two particular young men prayed very long and hard.  One of them I was told had recently had a 3,500.00 a day drug habit.  His arms were all marked up and still red from recent use.  He has been clean for only three days.  These young men and women were so sincere.  Please pray for them as you go about your day!  And please pray for HMA.

POETRY

HERE IS A POEM OUT OF A BOOK THAT I WROTE BACK IN THE 80'S, IT'S CALLED "CHOOSE LIFE":

There is a human being; young in mind but old in heart.  This human, let's call her beth, lived in a small room and really didn't do very much.  Beth was generally content, but sometimes she had a longing to bust out and really be somebody.  Most of the time Beth stayed calm, believing that one day she would get her big chance.  One day, while just sitting back and relaxing in her cozy little room, Beth noticed an odd change in her rather simple lifestyle up to this point.  Her room, where she sat, was shaking as if an earth quake were taking place.  Then, without warning, a large piece if metal came crashing through the wall and struck her.  As Beth peered around, she felt extreme pain and soon noticed that her right arm had been severed from her body.  The metal came crashing toward her again.  It was cold and hard unlike anything that Beth had ever come across before.  It cut her head and back severely.  Beth could do nothing aside from lie there in her room, bleeding, screaming and going delirious.  Eventually meeting her own, lonely, agaonizing death.  Beth never got her big chance...because Beth was aborted.

Here is a poem written by a lady that lived in a box in downtown Tulsa, OK until some HMA workers found her and began to help her and work with her.  We found out that she had brain damage from getting hit in the head with a pipe and she was literally living like an animal in a wooden box because she couldn't figure out a way to get the help she needed.  We helped her with food and clothing, took her to church for over a year and I represented her with the Social Security Administration for six months and then finally Social Security awarded her physical and mental dissability and we helped her move into an apartment, get assisted living help, a post office box and an advocate to help keep her bills and doctors and things like that all organized.  During the process of all of this she prayed, got saved, joined the HMA church and has been to chruch probably a couple hundred times.  She has even been around to different fellowship churches in a couple of other states.  Now I know what some of you are thinking right now.  Ohhhh, we would help people like that if we could find them.  Here is the problem.  In order to find and help people like that, you have to work with the drunkards, the drug addicts, the gang members, prostitutes, etc.  They are all mixed in together.  You don't get to pick and choose.  Ahhhh, that kind of put a damper on things, didn't it?  Anyway, this is a picture of her in the very beginning, she is the one with the scarf on her head, and here is her poem.

 It's called "OUR LORD"

Our Lord has been so gracious to me,
He has opened my eyes so now I can see.
What was faded and dark,
Has become clear in my heart.
When it was cold, He kept me warm,
Through all the rain and many storms.
I was wanting to just let go,
But Jesus wanted to save my soul.
Just trying to live day by day,
Then one day, I started to pray.
Our Lord has been so patient and so kind,
There is no other love that you will ever find.
Our Lord has been so gracious to me,
And now that I have found him, I am finally free!

This next poem was written in 2006 by a woman that had been on meth for a bout 10 years and every time that she got arrested, she would call and have me come and visit her in the county jail and pray with her.  She always prayed a little and did a little better in jail and then when she got out she would always go right back to using meth.  The last time that I visited her in jail, she asked me to pray that God would get her out of jail.  I told her that the only thing that I was willing to pray was that God's will would be done in her life.  A few days later she was sentenced to several years in state prison.  When she got to prison a group of church people were going in and holding services.  She fought it in the beggining, but eventually she started attending, got saved and delivered from addictions and other things and became a very model inmate and actually says that she would rather be in and clean and saved than out and messing up and lost.  Here is her very touching poem.  It is called "YOU":

I looked for You in a bottle, I looked for You in a pill.
I looked for you in a man, but nothing still.

I looked for you in a pipe, I looked for you in every puff.
I looked for You in a powder and that still wasn't enough.

But You were there all along.
In all of my writtings and all of my songs.

I would talk to you and not even know,
That you were waiting for me to surrender my soul.

You wouldn't let me die, or for one moment forget that You were there.
I just kept on messing up and acting like no one even cared.

Looking back now it seems so weird.
Remembering that all along it was You that I feared.

You were all that I had left, You are the only one that knew.
That You left me here for a purpose and there were things that You wanted me to do.

You had to lock me up and throw away the key.
Yet it was behind these bars that I was finally set free!

I wrote the first poem as a teenager, I was lost and just lashing out.  It was actually filler for my first book.  The other two were written by very newly converted ladies that knew absolutely nothing about church except what they had been taught in a few outreach services and what they were feeling in thier hearts.  They are all a bit raw but I think we can get something real out of each of them.
More later....

I SAMUEL CHATPER 11

1Sa 11:1  Then Nahash the Ammonite came up, and encamped against Jabeshgilead: and all the men of Jabesh said unto Nahash, Make a covenant with us, and we will serve thee.
1Sa 11:2  And Nahash the Ammonite answered them, On this condition will I make a covenant with you, that I may thrust out all your right eyes, and lay it for a reproach upon all Israel.

If you want peace in this world, it’s going to cost you something...  If you get peace from Jesus, you will have to surrender over the throne of your heart to Him and make him King of all.   This may sound a little drastic, but trust me, it’s the best way.   Because the only way that you can get along in this world without Him is to give up far more than that.

Some that I am working with, when they did it their own way, made deals just like these men.   These men were willing to give up their right eye to live a little longer.   Some that we know have given up their right mind to live a little longer.   Some have given up their self respect.   Some have given up their purity or their dignity or their virginity or their children or their spouse or their Sanctification or their morals.

1Sa 11:3  And the elders of Jabesh said unto him, Give us seven days' respite, that we may send messengers unto all the coasts of Israel: and then, if there be no man to save us, we will come out to thee.

These men asked for seven whole days to make up their minds before the enemy destroyed something of theirs..... I am only asking for about 10 more minutes to help you make up your mind to stop the devil from destroying anymore of yours.

1Sa 11:4  Then came the messengers to Gibeah of Saul, and told the tidings in the ears of the people: and all the people lifted up their voices, and wept.
1Sa 11:5  And, behold, Saul came after the herd out of the field; and Saul said, What aileth the people that they weep? And they told him the tidings of the men of Jabesh.
1Sa 11:6  And the Spirit of God came upon Saul when he heard those tidings, and his anger was kindled greatly.

WAIT A MINUTE!!!   When we think of the Holy Ghost falling, we think of getting happy.   Dancing, rejoicing, praising, running and shouting, but let me tell you something...   Every once and a while, when the Holy Ghost falls, He ought to make us ANGRY!!!!!     Angry that the devil took our purity.  Angry that the devil took our sanity.   Angry that he got our marriage.   Angry that he got our youth, our friends and our patience.

They were going to lose their right eye, but often times, some of us have lost our right spirit, and that should make us ANGRY!.

Angry enough to do better.   Angry enough to pray harder.   Angry enough to live better.

1Sa 11:7  And he took a yoke of oxen, and hewed them in pieces, and sent them throughout all the coasts of Israel by the hands of messengers, saying, Whosoever cometh not forth after Saul and after Samuel, so shall it be done unto his oxen. And the fear of the LORD fell on the people, and they came out with one consent.

Now we have some Godly anger and some Godly fear.   This is good.   These are a couple of things that the church has been running low on.

Now notice one very, very, very, important thing about this Holy Ghost anger.   (Holiness People Especially).   This anger was very genuine, very sincere, very aggressive anger.   But here is where I don’t want to lose anyone.    It was a very CONTROLLED, very lucid, well managed anger.   There were NO casualties from Friendly Fire here.   He just killed some oxen.   This anointed anger was used to free people, deliver people, break the bondage of God’s chosen Israel, NOT harm them.

When I see men and women of God, blowing up and yelling and blasting people.   Reaching at long stretching, thin interpretations of scriptures to lock people down and bind them into guilt trips.   And using the pulpit to take cheap shots and make personal or political statements (by politics, I mean within the churches).   This doesn’t seem to be Holy Ghost anger and genuine conviction as much as it is uncontrolled rage and simple, carnal losing of the temper.

Now I am the first to admit that the Holy Ghost of Heaven will “Pin you down”.... and God can be very poignant about His approach to getting your attention.   But I think a lot of us have seen and very easily picked out the difference between righteous indignation and a mad preacher that is losing his control over people and trying to regain the upper hand.

This chapter gives us a hint: When it rallies the people of God to help other people of God, it was God.   When it rallies the people of God to attack other people of God, it was NOT God.

1Sa 11:8  And when he numbered them in Bezek, the children of Israel were three hundred thousand, and the men of Judah thirty thousand.
1Sa 11:9  And they said unto the messengers that came, Thus shall ye say unto the men of Jabeshgilead, To morrow, by that time the sun be hot, ye shall have help. And the messengers came and shewed it to the men of Jabesh; and they were glad.

This is great stuff.   They are telling the saints at Jabesh to hold on.   Help is on the way.  You may be a struggling minister, a struggling single mother, a struggling young convert to Christ and people are telling you to hold on.   But you don’t know if you can make it long enough.

One person said it takes this long, another said that it will take about that long.   Listen to me.   God is not limited to what so and so said.  Look at this chapter.   In verse 3 they asked for 7 days.   In verse 9, Saul sent a messenger and said by noon tomorrow....  But, verse 11 said, in the morning watch, or some versions render it, “Early in the Morning”..... GLORY!!!    You thought it was going to take a week.  Your friends thought it would take half a day.   But when God got ready to move, He moved first thing, Right Away!!!

1Sa 11:10  Therefore the men of Jabesh said, To morrow we will come out unto you, and ye shall do with us all that seemeth good unto you.
1Sa 11:11  And it was so on the morrow, that Saul put the people in three companies; and they came into the midst of the host in the morning watch, and slew the Ammonites until the heat of the day: and it came to pass, that they which remained were scattered, so that two of them were not left together.
1Sa 11:12  And the people said unto Samuel, Who is he that said, Shall Saul reign over us? bring the men, that we may put them to death.

Ok....  I don’t know if you are ready for this or not, but this is my favorite part.

Back in verse 7, Saul got angry.   Now I said it was a controlled anger and that the Holy Ghost wasn’t coming on to a man to help him “Tear People Up”.   It was a delivering anger.   Not a destroying anger.  Yes, I know, they destroyed the enemy and their camp.   That’s fine.   That is what we the church are supposed to do.   Destroy the enemy’s camp.

The problem is that, in ministry today, if your group doesn’t agree with another group, even if both groups are supposed to be on the same side, God’s Side, then you can attack the other group in “Righteous Anger” and justify it, RIGHT?

Look at verses 12 and 13.  The people wanted to kill certain members of the Tribes of Israel, (Uh Oh), for not seeing things the same way as the rest of them.   Now Saul.... if you want to say that he was still using his Holy anger to kill the Ammonites, then obviously he is still angry here, But, he refuses to let any of the Israelites be slain.  Even the ones that disagree with him!!!    For in his own words... “This day the Lord hath wrought Salvation”.   He was saying No No... Wait a Minute.   This was Jehovah’s strength and power.   We don’t kill His People with His Power.   As a matter of fact, I just re-read the whole story and I do not find anywhere that Saul had these people put to death unless he did it after he had sinned and failed to repent.   Does this mean that ministries that use their influence and power to tear down other ministries that don’t agree with theirs more than they use them to “Deliver” others that God wants to claim as His own, could merely be ministries that were once anointed but have since sinned and failed to repent but are just like Saul in the sense that they just haven’t stepped down or been removed yet?

Dear God, help us to use your Holy Scriptures correctly.  They are power and life and truth.  If we are going to use the ones that teach sanctification, morals and correction, (and we should), then we must use them all... even the ones that often clip our own wings.

1Sa 11:13  And Saul said, There shall not a man be put to death this day: for to day the LORD hath wrought salvation in Israel.

God worked saving in the church, not God gave us power to kill so and so.   Can’t we see the difference?   Even after they just killed off a whole encampment of the enemy, Saul, whom the Holy Ghost was upon, stated that the whole days effort was for the saving of church people!!

1Sa 11:14  Then said Samuel to the people, Come, and let us go to Gilgal, and renew the kingdom there.
1Sa 11:15  And all the people went to Gilgal; and there they made Saul king before the LORD in Gilgal; and there they sacrificed sacrifices of peace offerings before the LORD; and there Saul and all the men of Israel rejoiced greatly.

INSPIRATIONAL TRUTHS

LOVE PEOPLE AND USE THINGS-NOT LOVE THINGS AND USE PEOPLE.

MOST OF THE THINGS WORTH DOING IN THE WORLD HAD BEEN LABELED IMPOSSIBLE BEFORE THEY WERE DONE.

AN ERROR BECOMES A MISTAKE AS SOON AS YOU REFUSE TO CORRECT IT.

A MISTAKE BECOMES A SIN AS SOON AS YOU REFUSE TO ADMIT IT.

THIS WORLD BELONGS TO THE MAN WHO IS WISE ENOUGH TO CHANGE HIS MIND IN THE PRESENCE OF FACTS.

DON'T ASK FOR AN EASIER LIFE, AS TO BE A STRONGER PERSON.

IT IS UNLIMITED WHAT YOU CAN ACCOMPLISH IF YOU DON'T CARE WHO GETS THE CREDIT!

THE GREATEST THINGS ARE ACCOMPLISHED BY INDIVIDUAL PEOPLE, NOT BE COMMITTEES OR COMPANIES.

WE HAVE DRIFTED AWAY FORM BEING FISHERS OF MEN, TO JUST BEING KEEPERS OF THE AQUARIUM.  (THIS GOES BACK TO THE BLOG TO THE HMA PASTORS ABOUT PASTORING A COMMUNITY NOT JUST A CONGREGATION)
FAILURES WANT PLEASING METHODS;
SUCCESSES WANT PLEASING RESULTS.

THIS CAUSE

Our Cause is so just and so good, that NOTHING can prevent our success, but our sins only!

DISCIPLINE

Discipline is delayed gratification.  The practice of discipline is the practice of advanced decision making.   You are making an advanced decision to delay gratification as long as necessary to achieve the results that you most desire.... THAT, is Discipline!

HMA PASTORS

Pastor not a person or group of persons.   Yes, this means do not pastor your church, your outreach, or your youth group.   Pastor your community!!!

Be the one they call when someone goes to the hospital, when someone dies, when one is sick or distraught, or has a question.    Everyone, not just the ones that already think like you.   You should get calls for help and encouragement from the drunkard, the city council member and the pastors for the Baptist, Nazarene and Mormon Churches.

Your congregation will learn more watching and helping you help others, than they ever will with you and all your preacher buddies getting in each others pulpits and expounding on what Graham said about what Moody said about what Spurgeon Said.........    Put a big sign on the inside of the doors that enter your sanctuary so all see it every time they leave.    A Sign that says.... “NOW ENTERING YOUR MISSION FIELD” .....   More later.

God Bless.

HMA, DEFINED BY IT'S FOUNDER

The idea of HMA is based on a two part principle.

1.  What are the needs of a community.
2.  How do we Biblically meet those needs.

These are not two principles.    This is one, two part principle.   Many are using one part or the other and it is not working.   For example: If you want to start a Homeless program in rural Montana....  Go right ahead, but no one is homeless out there except some stray cows or something.    If you want to start a drug awareness program in a county that is ranked #873 on the list of counties with the worst drug problems, your efforts are probably going to be better served else where.

It gets even trickier than that.    Say you find out that a lot of women are being beat up in your community, so you obviously want to have some sort of help for battered women.   A little bit of study by someone who understands the process may quickly find that your area has a very large population of cocaine addicts or prescription drug addicts,  and that for some reason the drugs that have been supplied plenteously in that town for years, have bottle necked and they are not coming through fast enough.    This could be a sign that it is not necessarily time to start a huge battered women’s work, but rather a time to start a very large scale drug awareness program for local addicts, local churches and the families of local addicts.  Thus helping many of the users get delivered from their addiction in a time that they are more responsive because they are running out of choices and ultimately you find out that a bunch of the addicts get saved and delivered before the drug suppliers get there act back together.   When it’s all over, you find out that there are hardly any women getting beat up because a lot of those that were beating them up got saved and the other ones that didn’t get saved still stopped beating their women because their drugs came through again.   You took advantage of the circumstance and changed many lives in the process, but you did it by following the right principal.

Another reason it is very important to find what the need really is first, is because a lot of well meaning people start a type of outreach that they “LIKE” instead of one that is needed.   This generally wastes a lot of time, energy and resources and then people get discouraged and quit.   It is good to “Join Forces” with something that you enjoy.   But it is not so good to just randomly “Start” things just because you enjoy them.   Not when it comes to outreach.   Start what is needed or join something that you like that was started because it was needed.

The second part of the principal is just as important and far more destructive if not followed.   Once the need is decided upon, the only way to meet it is Biblically.   We all see failures everyday of people trying to deal with real problems in ways that ultimately don’t help.   Food is good for the hungry, clothes and blankets are good for the cold.  But after the immediate needs are met, it is time for the long, slow and delicate process of dealing with the real problems.   Drug abuse, rebellion, false religions, abuse, mental problems, devil possessions, physical disabilities, bankruptcy.    If you give them food, clothes, money, preaching and or anything else, you have done some good.   But the odds of what you did getting that person out of their situation for good are almost NONE!  You possibly gave them a new hope, but that hope will probably let them down as did many others before.   Leaving that person worse off than you found them.

Offering someone the Love of Christ as shown through yourself, can only help.   Love, friendships, instructions, teaching, rules, care and concern, these things as administered by Jesus, through a willing vessel, is hope beyond all hope.   They are peace and strength that a sinner or new convert needs to survive, not only in this life, but the longer one, yet up coming.

HMA is based on the principal of spiritual people, educated in specific areas, helping to teach others how to ...
A) Determine the true need
and
B) Meet it Biblically.

God Bless!
